“Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is a sensitive and relatively low cost imaging modality that reconstructs optical properties of a highly scattering medium. However, due to the diffusive nature of light propagation, the problem is severely ill-conditioned and highly nonlinear. Even
though nonlinear iterative methods have been commonly used, they are computationally expensive especially for three dimensional imaging geometry. Recently, compressed sensing theory has provided a systematic understanding of high resolution reconstruction of sparse objects in many imaging problems; hence, the goal of this paper is to extend the theory to the diffuse optical tomography https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gw4869.html problem. The main contributions of this paper are to formulate the imaging problem as a joint sparse recovery problem in a compressive sensing framework and to propose a novel noniterative and exact inversion algorithm that achieves the l(0) optimality as the rank of measurement increases to the unknown sparsity level. The algorithm is based on the recently discovered generalized MUSIC criterion, which 4SC-202 inhibitor exploits
the advantages of both compressive sensing and array signal processing. A theoretical criterion for optimizing the imaging geometry is provided, and simulation results confirm that the new algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms and reliably reconstructs the optical inhomogeneities when we assume that the optical background is known to a reasonable accuracy.”
“Itch is a characteristic feature of lichen amyloidosis and the symptom can be debilitating. Treatments,
however, are generally not effective. We report amitriptyline as a novel therapy in treating itch in two patients with familial lichen amyloidosis who did not respond to prior potent topical corticosteroids and antihistamines. Outcomes of treatment were assessed using the itch score on a visual analog scale, itch frequency, and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). After taking amitriptyline 10mg o.n. for 6weeks, the itch score of one patient was reduced BX-795 supplier from 8.5 to 2 of 10, whereas the second patient’s itch score was reduced from 5 to 1. In the latter, his DLQI concurrently reduced from 14 to 6 of 30. Pathophysiology of itch in lichen amyloidosis may involve both cutaneous and neural components and amitriptyline is known to be useful for neuropathic itch. Low-dose amitriptyline poses little risk of side effects and may offer an effective and safe alternative for the treatment of itch in familial cutaneous amyloidosis.”
“Depletion of fossil fuels warrants the use of biofuels as an alternate source to minimize the usage of petroleum reserves. Biodiesel fuels are renewable source of energy derived from plant oils or animal fats. They are mono alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids formed by transesterification of oils/fats.
